Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was written and directed for the high school stage and premiered in October of 2013. This production was the winner for State Champion for Drama and was restaged at the Bellco Theatre in downtown Denver for an audience of over 4300 during the Colorado State Thespian Conference.
The entire piece was live scored by professional cellist, Ian Cooke, who wrote original music specifically for this production and performed all six performances.
"For Frankenstein I moved the time period about 80 years forward from the original writing of the novel to the dawn of electricity. This gave us the opportunity to play with light in many ways, including light bulbs that would drop from the rafters to create indoor vs outdoor locations. The set was a single unit that was designed to look like a structural iceberg that could then double as many locations, including hillsides, the grand staircase of the Frankenstein's in Geneva, and Victor's laboratory. The set could also be shrouded by a large burlap curtain that was designed specifically for this show. The curtain could be raised and lowered to reveal different sections of the stage but was still opaque enough to see through when light was used behind, like a scrim. The production was wildly successful and has been my most requested play for amateur theatre groups to perform."
